Jim Mills has long been acclaimed both for his distinct, driving traditional bluegrass style, and as an expert on pre war flathead banjos. The Jim Mills model Huber is a duplicate of one of his unique pre wars, a custom-made banjo that combined mahogany with engraved, gold-plated parts. Jim performs with his signature Huber on stage with Ricky Skaggs, and he used it for the recent Ricky Skaggs Instrumentals CD, and the Skaggs collaboration CD with Bruce Hornsby.

The neck and resonator are mahogany and the banjo is heavy gold plated with an engraving pattern unique to the Mills model in the Huber line. The neck is made with a subtle "V" shape and the speed neck is standard.

It is finished with a natural mahogany stain, with antigued binding and vintage finish. A double hump clamshell-type tailpiece is also unique to the Mills model.
